Kingdom Tower, World's Tallest Tower Built in Jeddah

Jeddah - Domination Burj Khalifa as the tallest tower in the world would soon end. Saudi Arabia will defeat it by building the Kingdom Tower, over 1,000 meters high tower.

The tower will be built in the port city of Jeddah. Saudi billionaire Alwaleed bin Talal has signed a U.S. $ 1.23 billion contract with the Bin Laden Group for the construction of the tower that took 5 years. The building will become the center of the Kingdom (Kingdom City) which was developed on the outskirts of Jeddah by Prince Alwaleed's Kingdom Holding.

"Building this tower in Jeddah financial and economic message that could not be ignored," said Prince Alwaleed told reporters as quoted by MSNBC on Wednesday (03/08/2011).

"It has a depth of political will to tell the world that we, Saudis, investing in our country regardless of what happens around us, events, chaos, and even revolution," he said.

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill architectural firm from Chicago, was selected to design the Kingdom Tower. Tower would eventually manifest into a Four Seasons hotel, service apartments, class A office buildings, luxury condominiums and the highest observatory in the world.

When the building was finished, plus 1,000 meter-high tower that will replace the Khalifa Burj Dubai as world's tallest tower. Burj Khalifa who has a height of 828 meters was built by Emaar Properties with a value of 1.5 billion dollars.

Kingdom Tower exact height remains a closely guarded secret, although the information developed mention at least 173 meters higher than the Burj Khalifa.

"It's not 1,000 meters. It's more, the higher a few meters ... The numbers secret, few people know," said Prince Alwaleed, a nephew of King Abdullah. Kingdom Tower will have 59 elevators and 12 escalators.
